Vormittag Associates, Inc. (VAI), of Ronkonkoma , is an IBM Premier Business Partner and award winning software developer. The company’s enterprise software product, System 2000, offers a suite of applications for the wholesale distribution, manufacturing and retail industries. Designed for the mid-range market, System 2000 is in use in more than 700 companies worldwide. VAI has over 100 employees and has branch offices in Florida , Illinois and California.

Bob Vormittag, President of VAI, noted that the company experienced tremendous growth during the Y2K period. “We achieved 222 percent growth from 1996 through 2000,” he said. “Since that time, we’ve been averaging approximately 10 to 15 percent growth each year.”

While VAI’s partnership with IBM has proven to be a significant competitive advantage for the company, Vormittag noted that the company’s biggest marketing challenge in sustaining revenue growth is creating more value than ever before.

“VAI’s evolving relationship with IBM will also produce more opportunities and improve VAI’s visibility in the enterprise software market,” he said. “We also need to stay focused on a variety of marketing activities. From direct mail, email broadcasting and telemarketing to technology seminars and advertising, we must maintain a significant marketing plan to achieve our long term growth objectives.”

Vormittag’s initial technology position was an RPG Programmer and MIS Director with a Long Island Service Bureau for nine years. He later became involved in computer consulting on a full time basis and formed Vormittag Associates, Inc. in 1978.

Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts, Crane Plumbing, Roto Rooter, Baccarat Crystal, Noritake and Dupont are just some of the companies that use VAI’s System 2000 software solutions.

Vormittag considers the technology job market to be filled with great opportunities, however, reveals the difficulty in finding the right people to fulfill positions.

“We’ve been actively hiring RPG programmers throughout 2004 and continue to have difficulty finding good candidates in the Long Island area,” he said. “We’ve been much more successful with other branches like Chicago, where we recently hired three new RPG programmers. Other technology workers are also difficult to find. System engineers and network support specialists continue to be in demand.”

Vormittag is committee chairman for Deloitte @ Touche’s Fast 50 CEO Roundtable’s Marketing Long Island Committee. “The consensus that I learned from other CEO’s is that since the “Dot Com” technology slowdown, many CEO’s found it somewhat easier to find technology workers. However, with the recent pickup in the economy and a regional unemployment rate of under 4 percent, our experience has been that good technology workers are once again, hard to find.”

Vormittag earned a bachelor’s degree from Dowling College and participated in Dowling’s masters program.
